President’s comment
This is always a busy time of the year. You will notice there are three events listed for next Thursday 30th
November. Personally, I think supporting the Beecroft shop owners
should be a priority. The shop owners are really trying to make their
Twilight Christmas a success.
If you happen to read this week’s Northern District Times or last week’s
Hornsby Advocate, you would have seen an article about the loss of
trees in Hornsby Shire. I am pictured with Hornsby Mayor Philip
Ruddock. A nice photograph. The article, however, written by
reporter Jake McCallum, is based on my speaking in support of a Mayoral
Motion at the last Council Meeting. I am incorrectly referred to
in the article as a representative of the Beecroft Cheltenham
Alliance. The article should have referred to me as being
President of the Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust, consistent with what I
said at the Council meeting. This was also the case with Trish Brown
who is on the Trust committee and President of the Byles Creek Valley
Union Inc. The Alliance, by the way, was not represented at the
Council Meeting. Unfortunately Jake McCallum did not check the article’s
accuracy with me prior to publication. So, once again, don’t
believe everything you read in the paper!
Mikey the Powerful Owlet is Back With His Second Photo Book Georgia Cameron and Michael Bianchino are publishing another book on Mikey the powerful Owlet. The book will be available for sale for $30 at the Children’s Bookshop in Beecroft from Thursday 30th
November. Like the first book, this second book is published by
the local community group, the Byles Creek Valley Union Inc. It is a
not-for-profit project that will donate $5 from each copy sold to Sydney
Wildlife, a registered charity licensed by NSW National Parks &
Wildlife Service. Georgia and Michael have arranged a display in the Beecroft Place community window as well. The book will make an ideal Christmas book. In store only – The Children’s Bookshop 6 Hannah Street Beecroft $30

Twilight Christmas in Beecroft
The local shop keepers have put a lot of work into making this event
happen. Activities, starting from 5pm, will be spread throughout the
shopping centre and will include Santa, a jazz band, a flautist, a magic
elf and face painting to mention only a few. Many of the shops will
have their own special activities, such as pyjama story time at the
bookshop and a BBQ at the butcher shop. So please come down and support
your local community by joining in the festivities.
Hornsby Shire Council Community Forum for North Epping Residents Hornsby Council will be holding a community forum on Thursday 30th
November commencing 6.30 pm, at the North Epping Bowling and Community
Club, 132 Boundary Rd North Epping. The Public Forum is advertised
for North Epping residents only, but residents living outside of North
Epping who are interested in local issues, are also welcome to
attend. Hornsby Councillors will be in attendance.
Talk on the new biodiversity laws A
reminder that the Total Environment Centre will be holding a public
meeting to discuss the new biodiversity laws and just how these will
impact on our specific part of Sydney. There is a list of excellent
speakers. Join your neighbours and friends to hear what we can do
together to stop the loss.
The meeting will be at the Cheltenham Recreation Club, 60-74 The Crescent Cheltenham, 6pm for 6.30 start on the 30th November.

Beecroft Presbyterian Carol Service The Beecroft Presbyterian Church is having a special Christmas Carol Service on Saturday 23rd
December, just before Christmas. It will start at 7:00 pm and finish
about 8:30pm. The Carols will held in the Presbyterian church hall, 6
Welham St, Beecroft. Bring the family and come sing your favourite
carols and hear the Christmas story.

Proposed new Car Park at Plympton Rd Shops Carlingford Three
Trust committee members met with Parramatta Councillor Donna Davis,
Parramatta Council Officers and Simon Greville, the owner of the North
Carlingford Pharmacy, on Friday 17th November to discuss the
proposed new layout of the car park. The existing parking bays
need widening and in order to retain the same number of parking bays the
entry to the car park will be relocated to allow a larger car park.
Landscaping will be upgraded as part of the reconstruction. A small
number of residents suggested a public toilet but, after discussions
with various stakeholders, Parramatta Council decided a public toilet
could not be justified. Council hopes to seek tenders early in the new
year and have the project completed by May 2018. Extract of plan showing

Police Report With
Christmas upon us, residents of Beecroft and Cheltenham need to be
vigilant and on the alert to what is happening in their neighbourhood.
Below is an extract from the Police on crime reported in the Ryde Local
Area Command, which includes Beecroft and Cheltenham.
“Different groups are coming from elsewhere into the more affluent LAC
areas of Ryde, North Shore and Rouse Hill as evidenced by reports of
armed robberies, B&Es, carjacking etc from these LACs. Two groups
have committed B&Es in businesses and stealing from shops in
Eastwood. Arrests in Meadowbank and shop lifting operations with
police working closely with Loss Prevention Officers has had an obvious
impact on the stats for the LAC.”

months ago. We encourage residents who receive the eNews to tell
